FEW WORDS ABOUT THE PROJECT

Vegetalista is an embryonic art project aimed to study and promote biodiversity, natural environments and cultures threatened by standardisation and deforestation. It was started as a personal explorational project, which might hopefully expend with the help of other artists and collaborators.

FEW DIRECTIONS

One of the main creative direction for this project comes from the Usko-Ayar art school, about art students, and goes like this:

By observing and depicting nature, people (especially young children) become more aware of its beauty and richness, and they learn to respect it. In addition, the students hope that their paintings will inspire other people to share similar attitudes of appreciation and reverence. Complimenting this, the students are encouraged to develop the spiritual qualities of patience, concentration and a sense of cooperation.

FEW WORDS ABOUT VEGETALISTA

The word vegetalista can be found in a very original book titled Ayahuaska Visions written and illustrated by Pablo Amaringo (vegetalista and artist) and by Luis Eduardo Luna (anthropologist and noted ayahuasca researcher). Here is the definition found on wikipedia about vegetalista:

A vegetalista or curandero is a traditional folk healer or shaman in Latin America, who is dedicated to curing physical or spiritual illnesses. The role of a curandero or curandera can also incorporate the roles of psychiatrist along with that of doctor and healer.
